X898B is Unicode character number 35211, KanjiLiberal, Miru.

X898B is most popular among other miru characters.

X898B can be pronounced as "miru" (as other Miru characters)
and denotes anything related with transvering of infomation with visible range of electromagnetic waves:
look, view, watch, visual inspection, glance, etc.

Miru

The three Unicode characters

X2F92 [3], KanjiRadical

X898B [4], KanjiLiberal

XFA0A [5], KanjiConfudal

have similar pictures,
similar pronunciations (in particular, can be pronounced as "miru") and
similar meaning: look, view, watch, see, glance, etc..

Even a native Japanese speaker, looking at kanjis , , , is unlikely to answer:
Which of them is X2F92?
Which of them is X898B?
Which of them is XFA0A?

For this reason, at the reading (or scanning) and digitalization of kanjis, the correct construction ahould be something like

"XFA0A or X898B or XFA0A "

In TORI, this correct, but cumbersome construction is replaced with short term Miru.

X898B seems to be more usual character, than two other Miru. The most of description of this article can be applied to other Miru characters too.

Graphics

Picture of X898B looks like 3 rectangles, placed in row, with two bended inclined legs at the bottom: one as slash (almost not bended), and another as smoothed letter L (id est, strongly bended).

This picture looks similar to picture of kanjis Kai ( X2F99 and X8C9D , that denote a shell).
The main difference is:
In case of Kai, the "legs" are almost straight, as slash and backslash.
In case of Miru (and, in particular, case of X898B ), the right "leg" is strongly bended. At the good resolution, the difference counts several pixels and is clearly seen.

Phonetic

Several way to read X898B are mentioned:

Kun: み.る、 み.える、 み.せる

On: ケン

Semantic

According to the descriptions, character X898B to any object or any action related to the transfer/reception of information with visible range of electromagnetic waves; usually the visual registration of information is assumed.

Conclusion

Some software apply the automatic replacement of characters. For example, character XFA0A can be silently, without any warning, replaced to X898B; . Such a replacement is difficult to detect because of the authomatical "redirects". Such a bug is revealed at the recovery of articles from the backup copies; instead of an article, the multiple mutual "redirect"s are recovered; in such a way, the content of article may happen to be lost.

In order to protect the data, the 6 similar articles are loaded at TORI, representing carious possible ways to write the Miru characters.
